Silk Care

Embrace the elegance of silk in your wardrobe and enjoy its timeless beauty, knowing that with a little care, it will shine brilliantly for years.

7 Step Silk Care Guide

1. Dry Clean

We recommend cleaning at a dry cleaner which guarantee care for silk. This is the safest way to clean silk, especially digitally printed silk to protect the colours and detailed design.

2. Specialist Silk Detergent

If you do need to wash an item, use a specialist silk detergent as silk is a natural protein fibre (just like your hair). The enzymes found in regular detergents break down proteins which is great for dissolving protein based stains but also breaks down the protein fibres which the silk is made from! At a pinch you can use baby shampoo.

3. Cool Water

Wash and rinse with cool water, 30°C and below is suitable for silk. Hot water also breaks down proteins which the silk is made from.

4. Gentle Squeeze

Avoid scrubbing your silk and don't wring the fabric, treat silk as you would your own hair, squeezing the detergent through gently. Once washed, roll excess water out in a clean towel and lie flat to dry.

5. Machine Washing Not Recommended

We don't recommend you wash your silks in a washing machine, it can cause damage. If you are willing to take the risk, place the item in a delicates bag, use a specialist silk detergent (heat and the enzymes found in regular detergent both break down the protein fibres which the silk is made from) and a delicates setting with temperature below 30°C.

6. Cool Iron

Iron or steam your silk on the reverse side of the fabric to restore lustre and sheen on your irons lowest heat setting. If you have to iron the front of the fabric, place a cotton cloth over the silk to protect it. Do not use the steam or spray setting on your iron as large water droplets can cause water stains. Instead use a mister to distribute the water evenly for stubborn creases and try not to soak the fabric.

7. Do Not Tumble Dry

The heat will destroy the delicate protein fibers the silk is made from.
